Although not very popular in the automotive industry, the Croats from Rimac will reveal the next week at Frankfurt Motor Show a revolutionary concept: a 1088-horsepower supercar, fully electric, with the range of 370 miles, top speed: 190mph, 3,800 newton-meters of torque [2,803 pound-feet], acceleration 0-100 kph/0-62 mph: 2.8 sec.
The high-performance powertrain is divided into four sub-systems, each consisting of one synchronous motor with permanent magnet, inverter and reduction gearbox, which produce a total of 800 kilowatts.
Each of those systems drives one wheel, completely independent from the others. Sophisticated electronics are managing the torque distribution between the wheels, using the current driver’s input, vehicle and road conditions by processing the data of many precise sensors placed all over the car. This architecture- All Wheel Torque Vectoring (AWTV)- allows a new approach to vehicle dynamics.
Mr. Rimac said he competed last month in an 500 miles E-miglia race in the Italian Alps for electric vehicles; he drove an older-model BMW E30 that he converted to run on some of the same electric propulsion technologies he developed for the Concept One.
The E-miglia is the first international e-rally where many EV producers want to show off their technology.
More technical details will be released after the unveiling of the Concept One at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011.
