Things are going further in order to develop the best electric highway concept. As we also write about these subjects during the time there were many attempts. This time at the Dutch Design Week the Better Highway Concept took the most important award. Winning team composed by Heijmans Infrastructure and designer Daan Roosegaarde dreamed up a smart highway lane to recharge electric vehicles not only to give weather information as usual.
Innovative designs such as the Glow-in-the-Dark Road, Dynamic Paint, Interactive Light, Induction Priority Lane and Wind Light will be realized within the following five years. The goal is to make roads that are more sustainable and interactive by using interactive lights, smart energy and road signs that adapt to specific traffic situations.
The glowing concept involves also a special paint on highways that will glow at night more than 10 hours allowing to drivers better safety illuminating ice crystals on the road. The concept could be implemented on Netherlands highways later than next year as the first pieces of the “Smart Highway”.
By Induction Priority Lane the Roosegaarde is proposing the installation of induction coils in some Dutch highways to wirelessly charge electric vehicles while they are in motion.
