The Tata Power Company has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigram for the construction of a 25MW solar power PV plant in Mithapur, Gujarat, India.
The project qualifies for the State’s Solar Power Policy 2009 and is expected to be completed by December 2011.
Prasad Menon, managing director of Tata Power, commented on the PPA signing, saying, “We would like to thank the Government of Gujarat for the support extended for setting up this solar power project at Mithapur. The signing of the Power Purchase Agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam is a step in the right direction and we look forward to participating in many such initiatives in solar power.”
The solar power PV project will be built over 100 acres of land and located on the coast of Gujarat. Crystalline silicon solar modules will be used for the project, although no company has yet been named as a supplier.
